Chatbots for business: Telegram, Instagram or WhatsApp — which to choose

2026-02-28 • 5 min

Each messenger has its own rules for business — somewhere you can message first, somewhere you can't, somewhere it's free, somewhere it's metered per message. Which channel suits which type of business in Uzbekistan.

Chatbots for business: Telegram, Instagram or WhatsApp — which to choose

The question isn't whether a business needs a chatbot — it almost always does, once enquiries and customer questions no longer fit into one manager's manual correspondence. The question is which platform to build it on: Telegram, Instagram and WhatsApp have different rules, different audiences and different costs of ownership.

Telegram

The most popular messenger in Uzbekistan — the overwhelming majority of the country's active internet audience uses it. An open, flexible API lets you build anything: from a simple bot with buttons and menus to a full service with payments, a catalogue and document uploads. There's no per-message fee, and CRM integration isn't constrained by the platform. For most types of business in Uzbekistan this is the right starting point.

Instagram Direct

A good choice for beauty, retail and services where the audience is already used to messaging through Direct and relies on the brand's visual content. The limit: you can only reply automatically without restriction within 24 hours of the user messaging first; beyond that window you need pre-approved templates or paid formats. You can't message a large contact list first through Direct.

WhatsApp Business

Far from the main channel by reach in Uzbekistan, but indispensable if the business works with the diaspora, international clients or B2B partners in Russia and Kazakhstan, where WhatsApp is more familiar. Full automation requires a verified Business API account, and every message beyond the free allowance carries a cost depending on its type. It's a narrowly targeted tool for a specific audience, not a universal channel.

A chat widget on the site

A less obvious but growing option is chat on the site itself (built on Chatwoot, Crisp or similar), which doesn't send people off into a separate app and can draw on the same catalogue and prices as the rest of the site, including AI-based answers.

How to choose

  • If the audience is mainly in Uzbekistan and you need maximum flexibility, start with Telegram.

  • If the business is visual (beauty, retail, services) and the audience is already active on Instagram, Direct is worth considering as an addition.

  • If there are international clients, the diaspora or B2B partners in neighbouring countries, WhatsApp Business covers that niche.

  • The channels don't have to be mutually exclusive — many companies run Telegram as the main channel and Instagram Direct as a secondary one, both feeding the same CRM.

If you need a bot that genuinely takes routine work off your managers rather than replying with canned phrases, get in touch and we'll work out which platform and which flow fit your business.
